The Xbox controller has been the de facto Steam controller for a long while. Just about any game you can play with controller support feels right with it. What Steam couldn’t do, however, was support the paddles found on the back of the Elite Controller. Thankfully, it appears an update to bring paddle support is on the way.
According to The Verge, a recent beta version of Steam now has support for Elite Controller paddles as well as individual trigger rumble. This typically means the mainline, non-beta version of the Steam software will eventually get this update, too. This is great news for those who move back and forth between Xbox and PC, as you’ll be able to bring the same controller back and forth between the two platforms and map your controls to work the same way. If you’re a Destiny 2 player, especially, this is a very good thing.
There’s no word yet on when this advanced Xbox Elite Controller support will make its way to the main version of Steam.
