The Fable series is coming back to Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, and PC but with a twist. Fable 4, or just Fable as it’s officially known, is in development and it’s one of the most highly-anticipated Xbox exclusives there is. The Fable series is finally coming back to Xbox Series X after an 11-year gap. Microsoft hasn’t shared more details since the game’s initial reveal with a fun trailer.

Microsoft recently announced after years of speculation that the game will come back. Playground Games, the Microsoft-owned studio behind the Forza Horizon games is the name behind the game. Fable is currently being developed for Xbox Series X, Series S, and PC. Xbox Game Pass tweeted that it will be listed on the Game Pass on day one.

There isn’t any official announcement about the release date. But we wouldn’t expect to see it until late 2021 at the very earliest. 2022 or 2023 is more likely to be the year Fable will be released.

New Graphics Engine for Fable

However, a job listing on Microsoft’s website has shed new light on the next Fable game. It points to the series using an unlikely graphics engine this time.

According to the job listing, which is for a Software Engineer at Turn10 Studios, Fable will be built using the ForzaTech engine. It powers the Forza Motorsport and Forza Horizon games. The listing states that the team is looking for a candidate who can enrich “the toolset to support an open-world action RPG Fable” and also add new features like “ray tracing to support the next console generation”.

New Team Members

Fable has two new team members. Steve Thornton is coming aboard as Associate Chief Designer for the game as he announced in a tweet. Anna Megill, the senior writer is also joining Playground Games as the lead writer for Fable.

Lastly, there have been rumors that Fable will go away from being an MMO. The team behind the project suggests it will take a more open-world RPG approach. We can even expect it to be with an online multiplayer component. Although we can’t really be sure until Playground Games and Microsoft makes these details official.
