Immortals Fenyx Rising is an action RPG, which means you get the sword-swinging battles as well as the behind-the-scenes upgrades. The game does one thing that I really like, however: it applies any improvements you unlock to all your gear instead of just a few chosen pieces. If you’re wondering how to upgrade weapons and armor in Immortals Fenyx Rising, you’ll need to take a trip to something called the Forge of Hephaistos.
But first: a warning. You’ll need to be deep enough into Immortals Fenyx Rising that you’ve paid a visit to the Hall of the Gods. If that isn’t a place you’ve been yet, stick to the main questline until you reach this point.
Once you’re in the Hall of the Gods, look for the forge. It should be pretty easy to find — it looks like an oven that’s on fire.
Yes, that’s the one.
Stand close to the forge to get a button prompt, then press that button. You’ll then see a screen showing all of the various categories of equipment that can be upgraded: swords, axes, bows, helmets, armor, and the carrying limits for Apollo’s Arrows and potions.
To upgrade anything at the Forge of Hephaistos, you’ll need a certain type of currency called Adamantine Shards. There are found out in the world and in various activities, and come in four different flavors:
- Yellow Adamantine Shards – Upgrade Potion Pouch and Apollo’s Arrows carrying capacities
- Blue Adamantine Shards – Upgrade weapons, armor, and helmets
- Red Adamantine Shards – Upgrade weapons
- Purple Adamantine Shards – Upgrade armor and helmets
The Red and Purple Adamantine Shards are harder to come by, and thus are reserved for higher-tier upgrades.
As I mentioned earlier, any upgrades you make to weapons and armor apply across the board. You won’t suddenly be weaker, for instance, if you switch off to a sword you got earlier in the game. That said, weapons and armor pieces do have unique perks that you’ll want to pay attention to. But you’ll never be punished in the power department for not using the latest item you found.
With that, you should be all set. Keep an eye out for Adamantine Shards out in the world. When you’ve collected enough of them, be sure to visit the Forge of Hephaistos and get yourself upgraded.
