How to Connect your Xbox Controller to your PC

Overview

If you are one of the many people thinking of getting playing on a PC, but you prefer using your Xbox controllers, either wireless or wired, we’ve got you covered. Some people prefer to play on PC for powerful graphics or additional customization in settings.

Maybe you are playing Call of Duty: Warzone, Fortnite, or Overwatch, and you want to get better at these games. If you are more comfortable with your Xbox controller than a keyboard and mouse, here is how you can get set up.

Option 1 – Wireless

To connect wirelessly with an Xbox controller, you will need an Xbox Wireless Adapter. Some PCs have these built in, but if you are unsure, you likely don’t have one yet. The adapter looks like a USB drive and sells for about $20-$30. It can be found at any of your popular stores that have electronics such as Walmart, Microsoft, or BestBuy.

Here are the steps outlined by Microsoft with Windows 10 if you have the adapter:

  1. Turn on your PC and sign in.
  2. Plug the Xbox Wireless Adaptor for Windows into your PC. For more info, see: Set up the Xbox Wireless Adaptor for Windows
  3. Turn on your controller by pressing the Xbox button (the large X in the middle of the controll). When you turn on the controller, the Xbox button  will start flashing.
  4. Press and hold the Pair button on the Xbox Wireless Adapter. A small light will flash for several seconds.
  5. Press and hold the Pair button on the top of the controller (the raised button). The Xbox button  on the controller will flash more rapidly – this means your controller is searching for the Xbox Wireless Adapter. When connected, the Xbox button  on the controller will stay lit.

If you’re using built-in Xbox Wireless:

  1. Turn on your PC and sign in.
  2. Turn on your controller by pressing the Xbox button  for 3 seconds. When you turn on the controller, the Xbox button  will start flashing.
  3. Press and hold the Pair button on the top of the controller (the raised button). The Xbox button  on the controller will flash more rapidly—this means your controller is searching for a PC.
  4. On your PC, press the Start button , then select Settings > Devices.
  5. Choose Add Bluetooth or other device, then select Everything else.
  6. Choose Xbox Wireless Controller or Xbox Elite Wireless Controller from the list. When connected, the Xbox button  on the controller will stay lit.

Option 2 – Wired (USB)

If you want to go the wired route, you can connect up to 8 controllers to your PC at a time. Simply connect the micro USB to your Xbox controller and connect to your PC.

Option 3 – Bluetooth

Many newer Xbox controllers are Bluetooth enabled. Check your controller to see if the Xbox logo is part of the controller portion, or the bumper portion. On older Xbox controller, the Xbox sign is on a completely different piece of the controller that is part of the bumpers, these do not have Bluetooth capabilities. You can see the difference in the image below. The first does not have Bluetooth capabilities, and the second one does.

Xbox Wireless Controllers: Bluetooth versus no Bluetooth
  1. Turn on your Xbox Wireless Controller by pressing the Xbox button .
  2. Press and hold the Pair button on your controller for three seconds (the Xbox button  will start flashing rapidly). The pair button is the small circular button somewhere between the two bumpers on the top of the controller.
  3. On your PC, press the Start button on your Windows taskbar, then choose Settings > Devices > Bluetooth & other devices.
  4. Turn on Bluetooth.
  5. Select Add Bluetooth or other device > Bluetooth. Your PC will begin searching for your controller.
  6. Select Xbox Wireless Controller or Xbox Elite Wireless Controller > Done.

Immortals Fenyx Rising – How to get Adamantine Shards

In Immortals Fenyx Rising, Adamantine Shards are the currency used to upgrade weapons and armor. What you may not know, however, is how to get Adamantine Shards in the first place.

In Immortals Fenyx Rising, Adamantine Shards are the currency used to upgrade weapons and armor. What you may not know, however, is how to get Adamantine Shards in the first place. Where are they? How many types are there? Below, we’re going to answer all of these questions.

To start, Adamantine Shards come in four varieties. All are used to upgrade certain tiers of equipment (or let you carry more of something, like Apollo’s Arrows or potions). All can be found in different places.

Yellow Adamantine Shards are used to upgrade Potion Pouch and Apollo’s Arrows carrying capacities, and can be found in chests and in Yellow Shard Clusters. These Clusters are like the one pictured above (but yellow, of course). Shard Clusters are just sitting around in the world, though you might have to do a bit of work to reach them.

Blue Adamantine Shards upgrade weapons, armor, and helmets. You can find these from defeating common enemies, by searching chests, and in Blue Shard Clusters.

Red Adamantine Shards are used to upgrade weapons and are harder to come by. These are found by taking down unique enemies, by searching guarded chests (chests with enemies guarding them), and in Red Shard Clusters.

Purple Adamantine Shards are also tougher to track down. These are found in epic chests (the kinds you need to solve puzzles for) and in Purple Shard Clusters.

As you can see above, opening an epic chest netted me a little bit of almost everything. I got some Yellow, Blue, and Purple Adamantine Shards. Not only that, I managed to snag a new piece of gear, too.

Your best bet for finding all of these types of shards is by completing the activities that correspond to them, and by searching hard-to-reach areas. If there’s a tall mountain or an island that’s tricky to get to, chances are you’ll find some Adamantine Shards there.

Once you’ve collected a bunch of them, return to the Hall of the Gods and visit the Forge of Hephaistos to start upgrading your gear.

Immortals Fenyx Rising – How to upgrade weapons and armor

If you’re wondering how to upgrade weapons and armor in Immortals Fenyx Rising, you’ll need to take a trip to something called the Forge of Hephaistos.

How to upgrade weapons and armor

Immortals Fenyx Rising is an action RPG, which means you get the sword-swinging battles as well as the behind-the-scenes upgrades. The game does one thing that I really like, however: it applies any improvements you unlock to all your gear instead of just a few chosen pieces. If you’re wondering how to upgrade weapons and armor in Immortals Fenyx Rising, you’ll need to take a trip to something called the Forge of Hephaistos.

But first: a warning. You’ll need to be deep enough into Immortals Fenyx Rising that you’ve paid a visit to the Hall of the Gods. If that isn’t a place you’ve been yet, stick to the main questline until you reach this point.

Once you’re in the Hall of the Gods, look for the forge. It should be pretty easy to find — it looks like an oven that’s on fire.

Forge of Hephaistos

Yes, that’s the one.

Stand close to the forge to get a button prompt, then press that button. You’ll then see a screen showing all of the various categories of equipment that can be upgraded: swords, axes, bows, helmets, armor, and the carrying limits for Apollo’s Arrows and potions.

To upgrade anything at the Forge of Hephaistos, you’ll need a certain type of currency called Adamantine Shards. There are found out in the world and in various activities, and come in four different flavors:

  • Yellow Adamantine Shards – Upgrade Potion Pouch and Apollo’s Arrows carrying capacities
  • Blue Adamantine Shards – Upgrade weapons, armor, and helmets
  • Red Adamantine Shards – Upgrade weapons
  • Purple Adamantine Shards – Upgrade armor and helmets

The Red and Purple Adamantine Shards are harder to come by, and thus are reserved for higher-tier upgrades.

As I mentioned earlier, any upgrades you make to weapons and armor apply across the board. You won’t suddenly be weaker, for instance, if you switch off to a sword you got earlier in the game. That said, weapons and armor pieces do have unique perks that you’ll want to pay attention to. But you’ll never be punished in the power department for not using the latest item you found.

With that, you should be all set. Keep an eye out for Adamantine Shards out in the world. When you’ve collected enough of them, be sure to visit the Forge of Hephaistos and get yourself upgraded.

Immortals Fenyx Rising – How to upgrade Stamina

If you’re wondering how to upgrade Stamina in Immortals Fenyx Rising, the task will require you to visit a location called the Bench of Zeus.

How to upgrade Stamina

In Immortals Fenyx Rising, Stamina plays an outsized role in what you’re able to do in the game. Your jumps take Stamina. Gliding on your wings takes Stamina. Climbing takes Stamina. Heavy axe attacks take Stamina. Heck, even the Apollo’s Arrows you shoot take Stamina. You get the point. You’ll need a lot of this. But how do you get more? If you’re wondering how to upgrade Stamina in Immortals Fenyx Rising, the task will require you to visit a location called the Bench of Zeus.

First, you’ll need to be far enough into the game where you’ve hit up the Hall of the Gods. If you haven’t visited this location yet, you may not be there in the main questline yet. Keep at it and you’ll reach the Hall of the Gods soon enough.

Once you’re there, you’re going to want to look for — no joke — a weight bench. Yes, Zeus apparently pumps iron. This game has a weird sense of humor, doesn’t it?

Bench of Zeus

Anyway, this is what you’re looking for.

Once you’re here, you’ll be able to buff up your Stamina reserve a bit by trading some of the Zeus’s Lightning you won out in the world.

Increasing your Stamina will do wonders for helping you traverse the world and discover new locations and secrets. After all, there’s probably an interesting looking mountain you want to climb that you don’t have the Stamina for, right? Make sure you’re upgrading here as often as possible and who knows — maybe one day you’ll finally get to see what’s at the top of it.

Immortals Fenyx Rising – How to craft potions

If you’re at a loss for how to craft potions in Immortals Fenyx Rising, though, fear not. It’s as easy as taking a trip to something called the Cauldron of Circe with all of your ingredients in tow.

How to craft potions

How much is Immortals Fenyx Rising like The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild? So much so that you can gather ingredients out in the open world, toss them in a pot, and create your own elixirs, of sorts. If you’re at a loss for how to craft potions in Immortals Fenyx Rising, though, fear not. It’s as easy as taking a trip to something called the Cauldron of Circe with all of your ingredients in tow.

Before we begin, you’ll need to have progressed through the game to the point where the Hall of the Gods is accessible to you. If you’re not here yet, keep plugging away at the main questline. You’ll get there in short order.

Now, once you’re in the Hall of the Gods, you’ll want to look for a “Cool cauldron!” with a fire burning underneath it.

Cauldron of Circe

This here is the Cauldron of Circe.

Stand near the Cauldron until you see a prompt, then press the corresponding button. The screen will then show you all of the potions you can craft, as well as how many you have currently.

There are four ingredients in Immortals Fenyx Rising that correspond to the different potions you can make. They are:

  • Pomegranate – Health
  • Blue Mushroom – Stamina
  • Olympian Fig – Attack
  • Flower Nectar – Defense

You can sometimes eat the ingredients themselves for a tiny boost, but crafting them into full-on potions make their effects far more potent.

These ingredients are pretty easily found out in the open world. Should you want to level up how much your potions can do, you can use Golden Amber — another material found in the world — to upgrade them.

Immortals Fenyx Rising – How to upgrade Godly Powers and Skills

If you want to upgrade Godly Powers and Skills in Immortals Fenyx Rising, you’ll first want to visit the River Styx Cistern.

Immortals Fenyx Rising lets you become a demigod of sorts — a mortal entrusted with the powers of the gods in order to save them and their home from utter destruction. The powers you get at the beginning of the game are okay. But trust us: you’re going to want more. So how do you level up your powers? If you want to upgrade Godly Powers and Skills in Immortals Fenyx Rising, you’ll first want to visit the River Styx Cistern.

Obligatory warning here: in order to access the River Styx Cistern, you’ll need to have made it far enough in the game to have visited the Hall of the Gods. If you’re not there yet, just keep on playing through the main questline.

Once you’ve hit the Hall of the Gods, look for a creepy looking bowl with a face on it.

River Styx Cistern

This unfortunate thing right here is the River Styx Cistern.

Get close enough to the Cistern to get a prompt, then press the button. This will show you a screen containing both your Godly Powers and your Skills. In order to upgrade nodes in either section, you’ll need to use the Coins of Charon you collected out in the open world.

Here’s a pointer for the UI here, since it’s not all that clear. The nodes that have a glowing border around them are skills or powers you already have. Nodes with a plus sign next to them are the ones you have enough Coins of Charon to upgrade currently. The rest — you’ll need to unlock more nodes to get to those, or else get more coins.

Take a look through the upgrades and decide which you should go after first. Your playstyle might differ from someone else’s, so you may want to opt for certain upgrades over others. Your journey through Immortals Fenyx Rising will test you, so be sure to stop back at the River Styx Cistern often to keep make sure your Godly Powers and Skills are upgraded.

Immortals Fenyx Rising – How to upgrade Health

If you want to upgrade Health in Immortals Fenyx Rising, you’ll need to visit something called the Kylix of Athena.

how to upgrade health

In Immortals Fenyx Rising, a good amount of Health is crucial to surviving some of the game’s battles. Unfortunately, you don’t start out with much of it. How can you buff up a little bit to withstand more attacks and increase your chances of survival? If you want to upgrade Health in Immortals Fenyx Rising, you’ll need to visit something called the Kylix of Athena.

To start, you’ll need to have made your way through Immortals Fenyx Rising far enough to have the Hall of the Gods unlocked. Once you’re there, you’ll want to search out a golden bowl sitting on top of a pedestal.

Yes, this one. This is the Kylix of Athena.

Stand near it to get a prompt, then interact with that prompt. From there, you’ll use Ambrosia you’ve collected out in the open world to add more Health to Fenyx.

As stated earlier, you aren’t given a whole lot of Health reserve at the start of the game. Finding Ambrosia, then using that at the Kylix to upgrade your Health pool will do wonders toward helping you face down some of the tougher enemies in the game. You’ll pick up a lot of quests and such early on and you may feel compelled to knock those out, but if you can keep an eye out for Ambrosia and make this a priority, you’ll have a much easier time playing.

Immortals Fenyx Rising – How to change appearance

If you’re wondering how to change appearance in Immortals Fenyx Rising, the answer is Aphrodite’s Beauty Chair.

In Immortals Fenyx Rising, you can create your own custom character at the start of the game and design them just the way you’d like. But what if you happen to change your mind halfway through? What if you decide that custom character is hideous, and you want to give them a total makeover? Fortunately, you can. If you’re wondering how to change appearance in Immortals Fenyx Rising, the answer is Aphrodite’s Beauty Chair.

To access the chair — which, no, is not where the gods get their dental exams — you’ll need to progress far enough into the game to unlock the Hall of the Gods. There, you’ll need to search out a chair that sort of looks like the kind you might find in a salon or barber shop.

This is Aphrodite’s Beauty Chair.

In order to use it, you’ll need to stand close enough to it to get a prompt. Once you interact with the prompt, you’ll get a screen that looks exactly like the character creator you saw at the beginning of the game. A lot of things in Immortals Fenyx Rising cost you some kind of currency. Thankfully, an appearance change is not one of them. You can do this anytime you want at no cost whatsoever.

Immortals Fenyx Rising weapons – How to use them

In order to progress in your adventure, you’ll need to know a bit about the Immortals Fenyx Rising weapons and how you should use them.

Immortals Fenyx Rising weapons

Immortals Fenyx Rising is, for all intents and purposes, an action RPG. That said, the combat — though it does have a tiny bit of depth — is more on the arcadey side. You’ll be striking quickly and in combos most of the time. In order to progress in your adventure, you’ll need to know a bit about the Immortals Fenyx Rising weapons and how you should use them.

To start, your sword attack is mapped to RB. This is your quickest attack, and the easiest to maneuver out of should an enemy attack be on its way. Pressing RB rapidly will let you slice your sword multiple times at great speed. For smaller, weaker enemies, this is pretty much all you need.

Your axe attack is mapped to RT. This is a larger, more powerful attack, but it is also slower and leaves you vulnerable for a brief period. The axe is particularly useful against larger and slower enemies as a result, but also comes in handy against shielded combatants. Those with shields will typically block your sword attack. With a swing of the axe, you can break this defense and open enemies up to a flurry of sword swipes.

Your bow and arrow attack is initiated by pulling LT. This both pulls out your bow and readies an arrow. Holding down LT keeps the arrow readied, enabling you to aim using the right stick. To fire off an arrow, pull down on RT while aiming, then release. You can also press RB while aiming to fire off Apollo’s Arrows. These are able to then be steered toward a target using the right stick.

Finally, remember that you can throw things. Anything you can pick up is a weapon in Immortals Fenyx Rising, whether it is a boulder, a log, a box, or some other item. To pick something up, orient yourself in the direction of the object and press LB. When the object is highlighted, press Y to summon it to you. You can hold down RT to charge up a throw (and line up where you are going to throw an object), then release it to give it a toss.
