Destiny 2: Beyond Light is super friendly to newcomers, and nowhere is that more apparent than in its new Monument to Lost Lights, a Vault-esque archive full of older Exotic and Pinnacle weapons from past seasons.
Wondering what the Monument to Lost Lights is, exactly? Let’s just say that, if you brand new to the world of Destiny 2, or if you perhaps missed a season or two over the past few years, the Monument is going to be your saving grace.
The Monument to Lost Lights is a sort of catch-up tool. When you open it, you’ll see a host of Exotic Gear and Legacy Gear options from past seasons of Destiny 2. Because Destiny 2: Beyond Light wiped out a few destinations, some of the weapons and items tied to those planets and moons were set to vanish.
Fortunately, the Monument to Lost Lights keeps them around… for a price. Normal Exotic items will cost you at least one Exotic Cipher, plus a host of other materials. Weapon drops from now-extinct raids will cost you an Exotic Cipher, some materials, and some Spoils of Conquest. Yes, to obtain those past raid goodies, you’ll have to run more raids. That’s the price of admission.
But Exotics aren’t the only items you can snag, should you want to truly catch up with those who’ve been playing endlessly these past few years. Legendaries from past seasons are also available, including an assortment of Pinnacle weapons. Finally, you can get that Not Forgotten! And no one will ever know you didn’t reach Legend in the Crucible. It’ll be your little secret.
Honestly, the Monument to Lost Lights is a great move on Bungie’s part. It makes the game a lot more friendly to newbies and those who play on the more casual side. Those who want to grind and really throw themselves at Destiny 2 can still get cool weapons and gear before everyone else. But it’s nice that there’s still a path for everyone else as time passes.
