Microsoft makes some rather confusing moves from time to time. One that really baffled me was the fact that Minecraft Dungeons launched without crossplay of any kind. Why would Microsoft put out a multiplayer-focused title on Xbox, PlayStation, Nintendo Switch, and PC without giving players the ability to team up across platforms? Fortunately, an update coming today will finally bring Minecraft Dungeons crossplay to the masses.

Here’s what Microsoft had to say on the matter:

Once you download the free cross-platform play update that goes live today, you will be able to play with your friends no matter what platform or console they’re playing on. Play the game together on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation, Xbox, and Windows! Finally, a party where nobody is sitting awkwardly in a corner watching others have fun.

In related news, Microsoft also announced that cloud saves will come to Minecraft Dungeons at some point in the future. The company declined to offer a specific date — only stating, “[…] our team is hard at work and very excited to bring it to life in an upcoming free update.”

Personally, I don’t think Minecraft Dungeons should’ve launched without these features. Both crossplay and cloud saves are things Microsoft promotes everywhere else pretty heavily. But hey, I don’t make the decisions — I just write about them.

We’ll keep you in the loop if we hear anything more about those cloud saves.
