Resident Evil Village created hype with the post-credit scene after its recent release. It sure adds more context to the original series but now there are questions on how the next Resident Evil title will be? You may find many opinions about the ending when searching Gaming Forums, but here is our take.
Resident Evil Village, the latest addition to the long-running zombie franchise was released Friday for Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC. It continues the story of Ethan Winters from Resident Evil 7. It also deals with the fallout from the return of the series main character Chris Redfield, the anti-bioterrorism agent. His mysterious appearance at the end of the previous game and surprising moves at the beginning of Resident Evil Village created a lot of questions.
Let’s take a look at them one by one. But be warned, there are lots of spoilers ahead.
What’s With Miranda?
The main villain, Miranda, lost her daughter Eva to the Spanish flu in the past. After that, Miranda got into a cave to die and happened upon the Megamycete. It is the main source of the mold from Resident Evil 7 and Village. Its regenerative properties made Miranda immortal. She also realized that the mold absorbed the consciousness of those who died. By that means, Miranda could bring her dead daughter Eva back to life. She started experimenting with the villagers.
Chris killed Mia in the game’s opening but it was actually Miranda in disguise. She kidnapped the real Mia Winters, wife of Ethan Winters. Miranda used her for experiments and her goal was to take her place to use the couple’s daughter Rose as a vessel for Eva.
Miranda Replacing Mia
In the game, Miranda is replacing Mia. It’s hard to tell when did this happen but probably when Rose was an infant. It’s weird that Ethan doesn’t notice it but he practically has a mold-brain so we can understand this.
Did Ethan Winters Really Die?
Miranda removes Ethan’s heart with a fatal move. While he is laying dead, a vision of Eveline, the antagonist of the last game, appears. Eveline shows a flashback to Ethan. In this flashback, we learn that Jack Baker already killed Ethan in Resident Evil 7. But Evelıne’s mold gave Ethan the ability to heal himself.
The answer to the question is that he is as alive as he can be in this zombie game’s environment. We see Rose visits his father’s grave so we can assume that Capcom killed him. Even though, it wouldn’t be a surprise if he comes back in the future.
Rose’s Future in The Game
The final scene implying she became an agent with the new Umbrella and working with Chris Redfield. She also has a kind of power which was why mother Miranda kidnapped her in the first place. This reminds us of Eveline and her use of the mold. We can make an assumption that if Ethan Winters doesn’t come back to the series, Rose could be the protagonist.
About Bioterrorism Security Assessment Alliance
Towards the end of the game, players can take control of Chris. During this time, there are a couple of mentions of BSAA. We can remember the organization from Resident Evil 5. We might expect some future mentions about BSAA.
The Umbrella Logo
The appearance of the logo found in the stone started some questions when early trailers of Resident Evil Village released. At the end of the game, we learn that Oswell Spencer, one of the founders of the Umbrella Corporation, visited the village before the company. Spencer saw the logo and was inspired by it. Miranda’s moves of infecting the villagers gave him the idea of the virus in Africa which we learned about it in Resident Evil 5. In conclusion, the appearance of the logo is symbolic since it is the beginning of pretty much the whole series.
