The Xbox Series X will offer a whole lot of power to future games, but what about past ones? Microsoft, thankfully, is going back and upgrading some favorites in a very big way. One of those might be the best racing title in quite some time. So what can you look forward to in the Forza Horizon 4 Xbox Series X upgrade?
To start, you can take the 4K Forza Horizon 4 did in its more visual-focused mode on the Xbox One X and add twice the FPS. FH4 will do 4K, 60 frames-per-second on the Xbox Series X. No toggling between frame rate and resolution. This will be the best-looking version of the game, bar none.
The team behind the title also boasts other enhancements, too, such as “clearer visuals with increased shadow, reflection, and particle effects quality.” In order to hit 4K on the One X, or 60 frames-per-second on that same system, some sacrifices had to be made. It appears those sacrifices will be — uh — un-sacrificed, if that’s a word.
While it sounds like Forza Horizon 4 will be looking top-notch on the Xbox Series X, there is one feature fans should not expect to see in the upgraded version: ray tracing. According to Playground Games, “While we don’t have plans to bring ray tracing to Forza Horizon 4, we are always listening to community feedback on how to create the best player experience.” That sounds like a more polite way to say, “No.” If you want ray tracing in a Forza title, you might have to wait for the rebooted Forza Motorsport.
We’ll be looking forward to this one, for sure, as Forza Horizon 4 is an absolute blast as it is, and will only get better thanks to the improvements coming in its Xbox Series X upgrade. In the meantime, toss FH4 onto an Xbox One X, play on a smaller monitor, and switch into performance mode. You’ll want to get used to playing at those higher frame rates.
Forza Horizon 4‘s Xbox Series X upgrade arrives on Nov. 10, 2020. You can purchase Forza Horizon 4 right now from Amazon (paid link).
