Rockstar is preparing to shut down GTA Online Xbox 360 servers. Xbox 360 owners will not be able to play the game online after December 2021.
GTA V came out for PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 back in 2013. Since then, the game has become one of the most successful titles in the video game industry. It is also one of the most played games around and still receives updates on a regular basis. But this situation is going to change for GTA Online’s Xbox 360 and PS3 versions. GTA Online will not receive further support and new content on these consoles after 2021.
Rockstar Games announced that they will stop supporting the game on much older consoles. Starting from September 15th, 2021, players will not be able to buy any Shark Cash Cards on Xbox 360 and PS3. The game will also lose its website stat tracking during the process. After that, GTA Online Xbox 360 servers will shut down forever on December 16, 2021. With that said, Rockstar also stated that the restrictions are directly related to GTA Online. Obviously the story mode and single-player are going to be playable on these consoles.
No Online Support for L.A Noire and Max Payne 3
Along with GTA Online, L.A Noire and Max Payne 3 will lose their online support as well. Players who have the games on Xbox 360 and PS3 will not be able to see any online details regarding these games like leaderboards and user progress.
Even though it is a bit sad for Xbox 360 and PS3 players, the companies usually adapt their games to new technologies. Rockstar Games, for example, is currently focusing on the next-gen versions of Grand Theft Auto V on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. In this context, the developer has thanked their players on older consoles and also added that they would like to meet again in Los Santos on new platforms. Considering that it has been 8 long years, it is only natural to bid farewell to GTA Online in the seventh generation of video game consoles.
