Gears Tactics

Do you want an XCOM-esque strategy game set in the Gears of War universe? If so, we have some good news for you. Gears Tactics, a title that actually released on PC earlier this year, took a bit of extra time to get to Xbox consoles. It looks like that added development has wrapped up, though. Gears Tactics has gone gold, which means the build of the game that’ll be pressed to disc is finished, and production will soon be kicking into gear.

If you plan on pre-ordering Gears Tactics, it looks like there’ll be some goodies waiting for you on launch day.

“Players who pre-order Gears Tactics or play with Xbox Game Pass before December 4 will receive the Thrashball Cole Character Pack which includes Augustus Cole as a recruit and the Thrashball Armor Set, complete with rare abilities,” Microsoft wrote on the Xbox blog.

Microsoft also detailed all of the achievements coming to the game, including 11 more that were tacked on to the original PC list. That means you’ll have 1,400 Gamerscore to earn in total, which should keep completionists plenty busy. (Though, if you’re upgrading to an Xbox Series X or Xbox Series S, you might want to put that deep dive off so you can check out some other games.)

And just a note for those who’ve played Gears Tactics on PC already, but might want to revisit the game when it arrives on console. Despite the staggered release dates, it does appear that Gears Tactics will be a Play Anywhere title. What this should mean is that one purchase will cover both console and PC, and cross-save will enable you to transfer your progress between platforms. The game’s official page has confirmed Play Anywhere support. If that somehow turns out to be incorrect, we’ll let you know.

Gears Tactics comes to Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and Xbox Series S on Nov. 10, 2020. You can purchase the game here (paid link).
