Xbox signs Dolby exclusivity deals to secure Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos in new-gen Xbox consoles. Microsoft announced the 2-year deal.

Microsoft has taken another solid step and signed a deal with Dolby. Based in San Fransisco, Dolby is an expert on various technologies regarding audio and sound. The new generation of Xbox consoles already had Dolby Atmos support in their arsenal. But with the exclusivity deal, they are going to be the only consoles with this support. Dolby exclusivity deal will last two years.

This means that other consoles like PlayStation 5 or Nintendo Switch are not going to get the same support. Dolby’s exclusivity deal will come to an end in 2023. We are not that surprised to hear this announcement though. Because Microsoft has been running tests for Dolby Vision on its new-gen Xbox consoles for some time.

Xbox Series X|S owners will be able to experience Dolby support by paying a 15$ fee.

What is Dolby Atmos?

Dolby is one of the most competent brands when it comes to audio technologies. Created by Dolby Laboratories, Dolby offers a family of immersive audio compressing technologies. Thanks to Dolby Atmos, the games and movies are able to offer 3D sound which captivates the viewer.

What is Dolby Vision?

Dolby Vision (HDR) 4K on the other hand, offers true black levels along with amazing color accuracy. The level of contrast and brightness is also mesmerizing as they enhance the image to offer the ultimate visual experience. We should also note that to experience Dolby Vision, you should have a supporting TV or monitor.

Microsoft continues to offer exclusive services on its powerful Xbox consoles. After acquiring ZeniMax and Bethesda, the tech giant is going to release games only on its services as well. Xbox Game Studios has also joined forces with Tencent’s TiMi a couple of weeks ago.
