The official nominees for 2020’s Game Awards are now live, and though Microsoft had a pretty quiet year in terms of releases, it still managed to rack up eight nominations in total. Ori and the Will of the Wisps, by far, appears to be the company’s best chance at taking home some wins for Team Xbox.
Here are all the games nominated, along with the categories they’re nominated in.
- Best Art Direction
- Best Music and Score
- Best Action/Adventure
- Games for Impact
- Innovation in Accessibility
- Best Family
- Best Sim/Strategy
- Best Sim/Strategy
It’s worth pointing out that Microsoft may or may not have some other titles in contention, depending on whether you count Microsoft actually publishing them or Microsoft simply owning the companies that made the games.
Doom Eternal is up for Game of the Year, and is also nominated in the “Best Score and Music,” Best Audio Design,” and “Best Action” categories. Microsoft is on its way to acquiring ZeniMax — the parent company of Bethesda — but that purchase has not yet wrapped up.
Wasteland 3 is also up an award in the Best Role Playing category. Though Microsoft has owned developer inXile for several years now, that title was actually published by Deep Silver.
We’ll be sure to keep you up to speed on how these games fared. The Game Awards will be streamed online on Dec. 10, 2020.
Dontnod is part of Xbox Studios now?
Tell Me Why was published by Xbox Game Studios. Dontnod is still independent. Same for Moon Studios (Ori).
