Can a game be a launch title months after its initial release? Ori and the Will of the Wisps is about to put that question to the test. The game is set to receive a significant upgrade when the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S launch on Nov. 10, 2020. The version Moon Studios is bringing to the next generation could make it look and feel like an entirely new product.
On the Xbox Series X specifically, Ori and the Will of the Wisps will run at 120 frames-per-second in full 4K HDR. Yes, you read that correctly. The Xbox Series X supports 120Hz displays, and the second Ori is going to take full advantage of it.
In addition to the frame rate bump, Moon Studios has reportedly been able to work in some fancier audio tricks on the Xbox Series X. Microsoft’s video on the matter didn’t go into detail about what those might be, but deeper player immersion was promised, so it must be a decent upgrade if it was worth mentioning.
Now here’s where things get tricky. Microsoft last talked about how Ori and the Will of the Wisps would be upgraded back in July 2020. At that point, the Xbox Series S was just a terribly kept secret and not a real product. It’s unclear how games from the current gen will be upgraded for the Series S, if at all. Hopefully some more news comes out about that soon.
But if you’re planning on getting the Xbox Series X, you can definitely expect a better looking and better playing Ori and the Will of the Wisps when that console arrives. The game isn’t new by any means. But if you have yet to dive in, playing on the Xbox Series X will for sure be the best way to experience it.
