The indie FPS game S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 is exclusive to Xbox for three months. S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 was announced as an Xbox console exclusive last summer. Sad to report, it’s only a timed exclusive for now. It seems like after that, the game will probably move to other consoles.
GSC Game World recently made a statement in an interview that they don’t have plans for S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 on other platforms “yet”. That word can mean so many things. Such as the studio wants to bring the game to other platforms just as we mentioned before. It seems like they can’t make a clear explanation about the situation due to binding contractual deals. We have to wait and see the upcoming moves the studio plans to make.
S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 and Xbox, a Brief History
In a court filing regarding the Epic v Apple case, it is revealed that Microsoft has various exclusivity deals for some games. It is also revealed that S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 is decided for a Q4 2021 release and will be exclusive to Xbox and PC for 3 months. As we understand, GSC Game World can do what it wants with the game after that. Nevertheless, Xbox will have an advantage since S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 is on Xbox Game Pass since day one.
It is not impossible for Xbox and GSC Game World to up the contract depending on the situation. Xbox is known to be persistent about acquiring the studios. Based on that, we can say that it’s not impossible to imagine the team getting purchased. It’s also probable that Xbox and GSC Game World have already made settlements about S.T.A.L.K.E.R.
We couldn’t see almost anything about S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 game. But based on the other games in the series, we can guess that Xbox had the battle to get exclusive access. We can expect that Xbox will keep on holding the details as a secret to draw as much attention as possible to Xbox and Xbox Game Pass through S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 game. It is important to mention that the door is still not closed for GSC Game World so they will move the game to other platforms. We have to wait and see the course of events.
